Re: How do I tune the PID?
I've had the same problem, and was looking around. I found this. I have not tried it yet, but it may work. http://byo.com/issues/item/299-brewing-on-autopilot-with-pid-controllers Next time I have a few moments I plan to try a water run and see if I can get my RIMS system to control. Had no luck so ...

Re: Hysteresis mode short cycling a freezer
What I am saying happens is that with a 1 degree deadband, the heater turns on at 149.9 and off at 150, when it should turn on at 149.0

Re: Hysteresis mode short cycling a freezer
I've upgraded my BCS 460 to 3.7.1 and then to the 4.0 Beta 3. I still get problems with the hysteresis I mentioned below. It happens in cool and heat mode. I used it in heating mode to run a RIMS heater, and noted that at the 150F set point it would turn on when the temperature dropped below, and of...

Re: Hysteresis mode short cycling a freezer
I created a process with one state, to control to 30F with a 4 degree band. When the temp drops below 34 the system shuts off. No changes...
What else can I try?
Is there a way to dump any memory, or download the firmware image?

Re: Hysteresis mode short cycling a freezer
No other processes; No ladder logic.
Is there a specific way you want me to reset to the default values, or just use the settings I see for the top line (Out0 PID/Hyst)

Re: Hysteresis mode short cycling a freezer
Here's an even interval between 29 and 30. when it goes below 30, it shuts off.
The system settings show its set to cool, also.

Re: Hysteresis mode short cycling a freezer
I checked the continuity between BCS ground and the AC ground. <0.1 Ohms. I set the system to log data 1/sec, and set the hysteresis mode to 28.5 F with a 1 deg deadband. Sorry for the nomenclature. Here's the decoder ring: The "Mash tun temp" is the beer temp in the freezer being lagered....

Re: Hysteresis mode short cycling a freezer
I need to look more closely and see if I connected the GND on the BCS to AC earth. It's not clear that I did. Here's the plot of the most recent. I'm lagering at 30F, and there's points in time where the compressor is being short cycled. Presumably when the upper limit is hit, but the resolution on ...

Hysteresis mode short cycling a freezer
My understanding of reading the Wiki and the forums is that when the hysteresis mode is used for cooling, the BCS should turn on when the top temperature is broken and will not turn off until the bottom temperature is exceeded. I have my system set up to provide power to an upright freezer with temp...

Re: PID not working with a RIMS
JonW, Thanks for replying. The temp probes I have are: - RIMS Temp: At the output of the RIMS tube, opposite end of the Tube from the Heater element itself - Mash tun: The temp probe in the mash tun. The other two traces are: - Out2: The state of the RIMS element (0 or 100), corresponding to on or o...
