Re: Temp probes screw into what?

Temp probes are 1/4" MPT threads. The compression fitting does give a water tight seal, so the probe can be immersed. But the wire going into the stainless steel portion of the probe is not water tight, and should not be submersed or wet. There is a small sleeve to help protect with occasional ...

Re: Pump and Heater Control

Very NICE. Great work.

Just for reference, its the +5VDC pin of the BCS. That pin can source up to 250mA.

Re: Question about the new BCS-460 temperature control

Welcome! One probe per keggle will suffice. If an output is going to be controlled by a PID, it must be associated with a temperature probe. But multiple outputs can be associated with the same temperature probe, so 2 probes aren't necessary. In the System Settings page, there is a pull down called ...

Re: Pump and Heater Control

DINs only work with processes, not Manual Mode. You could presumably setup a process that's sole purpose was to read a DIN and based on the value, assert the output. Kind of strange, but it would work. Like you said, just forcing the 5v onto the SSR control pin wouldn't be very good because the swit...

Re: Pump and Heater Control

As you can see in np0x's pics above, cat5 (Ethernet) cable makes an excellent wire for the low voltage DC control lines to the SSRs. cat5 has 4 twisted pairs, so you can wire up 4 relays very easily, or more if you share grounds.

Re: General Questions - Brew System

First question: the pumps, and valves will also require manual switches, but reading the 460 docs, it seems like I can use the user interface for this as well. Am I correct here? I am also planning on using the 460 for temp controlled fermentation. I'll have a stainless conical inside a freezer. Ca...

Re: What's your alarm?

Yeah, there is a default alarm called "./alarm_clock.mp3" which is already programmed into the controller. Its a short recording of your standard bedroom alarm clock. You can set it to play in two modes, 'Short' - about 6 seconds, or 'Loop Until Cancel' - until you press the Alarm Off butt...

What's your alarm?

An interesting feature of the BCS-460 is the ability to customize your alarm. Alarms can be any mp3 that you choose, and can be triggered by any state transition. This can be very useful to alert you when your target temperature is reached, or for a hop addition process. Thanks to Zulu for suggestin...
