Thanks for the further thoughts. I've read quite a bit on the difference in thermal transfer characteristics between copper and 304 stainless. The significantly thinner wall of the stainless is commonly thought to help offset the difference to some degree, though it can never match copper of course....

What benefit would this provide over just measuring the MLT and firing the HLT element if it's not at desired temp? Presumably in the described scenario you're using a HERMS system, so stratification of both your mash and HLT is going to be reduced by the circulation, right? Am I completely misunder...

I'm coming from a non-automated system, and simultaneously upgrading from 10 gallon to 25 gallon kettles. My design thread is here in general discussion as well, and I'm also taking some design cues from the electric brewery site.

I'm in the planning stages of my upgraded build too, and want the physical overrides for the same reason you do. Again, I might not need them, but I like the idea of having a physical switch that I can flip just in case.

What if you were to code it so that if a user wants to enable e-mail alerts, they have to provide an account to send from. Usually your own ISP will allow you to use their outgoing server for your personal use as long as you have an account. The end user would then have to set up on the e-mail alert...
