I had to use Chrome, or IE9. Lower version of IE would not work with the BCS...

Re: Mash tun not hot enough

I think I hit my strike temp pretty well, but then, I was only going for a 90 degree acid rest... The ambient temp was about 65 degrees, and a slight breeze. I think that had a lot to do with it. My tube was not up to heat, but did maintain the acid protien rests well. Then I had a LONG protien rest...

Mash tun not hot enough

I had a successful brew day after changing my burned out element, but with some flaws. My buddy made the same recipe that I did, but did not use the RIMS system. He went old school. At the end of the mash, his wort seemed sweeter, and more malty. At the end of the boil his had a higher O.G. While ma...

Burned out my element...

Note to self... I should mount the tube vertically... I must have had a bubble, or something during the mash because all of a sudden, I couldn't get the temp past 125. Took apart the tube, and I had burned out the heating element... Melted it. Now I will mount it vertically instead of horizontally t...

Re: OK, what do I need??

Thank you for the response. Lesson learned! Do you have the temp in the RIMS tube controlling the heater with the BCS, or a probe in the tun doing the controlling?

Oops. Just say your reply in the other topic. Thanks!

Which to use, RIMS or Mash sensor

I fired up my new RIMS system today, using my BCS for the first time. Everything worked fine, until I noticed the temp sensor in the mash tum wasn't coming up to temp. Turned out that I had my process controlled by the temp sensor in the RIMS tube, and THAT one was at the right temp, so it had switc...

Re: OK, what do I need??

The 2000 Watt element was actually shorter than the 3800 Watt 240 volt unit. The 2000 Watt 120 Volt element is about 6 inches from the temp sensor. It worked really well until I had a stuck mash. I found that I needed to restrice the flow from the output of the RIMS tube where it went back into the ...

Re: OK, what do I need??

I found a 2000 Watt 120 volt element at Home Depot this morning. I will give it a try tonight and report back... If my 240 volt 3800 Watt element was only putiing out 950 Watts at 120 volts, this may do the trick...

Not enough power?

I fired up my new RIMS system for the first time today, and I am disapointed. The 5 gallons of water in the mash tun never got above about 75 degrees. I used a 3800 watt 220 volt element on 110 volts, switched with my BCS and a 110 volt pigtail I bought from BCS. My brother says I should run it at 2...
