Wire external 7 digit display

Post by oakbarn »

I have read the Wiki and I think I understand. My question is that I want some conformation before I destroy my BCS 462 or 7 Digit display

It says wire Pin 1 to Exp 1 , Pin 2 to Exp 0. Pin 3 is not used Pin 4 to 12 vdc (I would assume the + terminal) and pin 5 to GND

I have attached two diagrams.

One with only one 7 Digit display and one with 4 displays.

There are also two IC connectors on the back of the 7 digits display. when looking at it, I assume the one on the left is the one to use. I cannot see anything to guide me.

How do you change the address. It came in a box with no instructions from OCCS.

I found the manual on the OCCS web site and it has cleared up most of what I need so disregard as the above for the four displays is wrong. Looks like you daisy chain them. The Wiki could be a little clearer. No need for a response.

What lead to the confusion is the link on the Wiki is wrong. it is https://www.oscsys.com/sites/default/fi ... Manual.pdf

When changing the address on the display.....what are you supposed to select?

it says 0x2a......but I can select 2a.....not 0x2a

In hex 0x2a is 42.....but that does not work either.

What am I missing?

2a = 2A = 0x2A = 0x2A

You just need to have each display on it's own address. Use 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D.

Jon,

I have my BCS 460 back, flashed with latest v3.7.1.
My 7 seg is all hooked up. (12v to power supply +, GND to - of power supply, SDA to Exp1, SCL to Exp0)
Debug led is flashing, power led on.
I double checked the connections to EXT1 and EXT0
address on 7 seg is set to 2A
BCS settings has display 0 enabled and set to Temp 1
and.....

Nothing

Display is totally blank after initial startup

What am I doing wrong??

Did you connect the BCS ground to the GND/- of the 12v power supply?

Nope.....just tried it and it works !!
Thanks
Now that it works.....the little voltage regulator on the board (I think it's that) gets very hot.....is that normal?

Mine get crazy hot also. I used to worry about it, but they've been running for about 2 years now, so I'm not concerned.
