Email on Alarm

Well I have read all the post but coming up with nothing, the BCS is not "sending" Emails on Alarm.

BCS = 462
Firmware = 3.7.1

X = Enabled

System:
Miscellaneous System Settings --> X Email notification on Alarm
Header Text, System Name = BCS -- Alarm
Email Address for Alerts = My Email


Process 0 , State 0---------------------------
Alarm:
Loop Until Cancel = X
Email on Alarm = X


All appears to be configured properly, which I have reset and power cycled the BCS.

The Alarm sounds in Browser but there is no email sent. Running a Packet Capture on the BCS there is nothing sent on port 25 (WireShark Filter = udp.port == 25 or tcp.port == 25)


Any ideas?

There are currently issues with this feature. When the feature was added, a decision was made to have all e-mails sent from the ECC mail server (for several technical reasons). Currently though, their host is sometimes blocking these messages from going out. A new solution is currently being investigated.

Yes understand using your Emails servers, that is fine but anything on the fact of nothing is leaving the BCS?

Nothing is sent because port 25 (TCP) is being blocked at the e-mail server. You have no active connection.

Being blocked, where? At my ISP? or your ECC?, BUT lets forget about all of that at this juncture, as before any port that is blocked is actually an issue, does not the BCS have to send first?

Again I am running a packet capture directly on the BCS and absolutely nothing is leaving the BCS on port 25 (TCP or UDP).

But appears I might be missing something, as I would not think that on power up the BCS establishes a connection to your ECC like an Exchange server or Google Exchange, correct?

On the BCS you'll see it outbound to port 587, not 25. You should see it in a packet capture.

So any thoughts on the WiKi getting updated on this feature?

I see the IP is 198.57.152.245, are there any more details on this so I can get with my ISP to have this allowed?


OR should I just not pursue this, as not 100% sure if I were to get my ISP to allow outbound SMTP on port 587 to IP = 198.57.152.245 if it will be received/sent by the ECC Mail server. As my thoughts of having this ECC mail server wide open on the WWW is most likely just getting pounded by every spammer in the world trying to gain access.

It's likely not your ISP, it's ECC's ISP that keeps blocking it. Like Jon said, we're looking at alternatives.

Really I was looking for email and/or text on alarms for Power mainly, Ambient Air temp in Brewery, then the Chiller functionality. Looking at alternatives I found the following for around $350. What do you all think or has anyone found/built a device that has this sort of functionality?
