SSR Not Closing

Post by oakbarn »

I am having issues with my BCS 462. I think the 5 vdc power is the issue. Some of my Outs and DINs no longer work. I tested the SSR (removed to my SSR Test Rig) and the SSR work at 12 vdc. When I take the Test rig back to the BCS for the tigger voltage via an out, the SSR Light comes on, but the Load contacts do not close. Is my 5 vdc power on the BCS bad? Anyone else have any suggestions. I know that the SSRs will work at 12 vdc.

Try triggering the SSR with just the 5V BCS output (not an OUT port). Also, what reading does a DMM give you on the 5V output? Run the tests a second time with the input/output terminals blocks disconnected (to rule out other devices pulling too much current).

Blocks in or Out is 3.19 vdc on the 5v.

Sounds like your power supply needs replacing.

Sending to Curtis. I suspected that. Odd thing, when I tested the 5 vdc, two times the BCS reset itself to Factory Defaults. While not every time, it happen half the time. My fat fingers were in the enclosure but no way the Reset button pushed. Fortunately I make backups every time I change a Process so I had a very recent one (two weeks old).

What are you sending to Curtis? The BCS or the power supply? If it's the power supply, those are throw away and replace.

You mean it is the Wall Wart 6v? I actually have one on order from DigiKey because I made a deal on another BCS that did not have the Wall Wart.

I got two new Power Supplies from digikey.

I have 3 BCS 462s now as I just recently purchased one from a guy in Sweden that did not have the power supply.
One is in my fermentation Cold Room and it is working fine.

When I test the 5 + vdc :

Swedish New Unit:

#1: Original "Bad" Power Supply: 4.58
#2: Digikey New 1: 4.35
#3: Digikey New 2: 4.38

My Old Unit:

#1: Original "Bad" Power Supply: 3.43
#2: Digikey New 1: 3:35
#3: Digikey New 2: 3:42

It appears that the best PS is the original one.

What I first noticed that some SSRs were not closing and also that a DIN seemed to be bad.
Din 0 is now ALWAYS closed.

I reset to factory defaults on my My Old Unit:

Some DINs are not working. Some are intermittent:
Din 0 is now ALWAYS closed.

Any suggestions?

What are the ratings on the power supplies? The input needs to be 5.9-6 volts for the BCS to have a near 5V output.
