Jon,
Very nice. What is controlling the 12v relay board and how did you hook it up to control each individual valve. i have a 8 relay 12v board and a 12vdc power supply.

Jon,
I see now. I had a very large brain fart. duh the BSC will control the board and the valves. all hooked up via cat 5 cable.

Jon, your brew rig design is a thing of beauty (I love simple yet effective designs). If you were in Australia I'd take some of those valves off you in a heartbeat. What sort of quantity did you have to order to get that sort of pricing?
Re: Single tier, 3 pump automated build
I e-mailed the company that jon linked to and they want $100 for them now. You might have better luck w/ the manf directly.

I've actually tracked down an Australian distributor for the valves, so hope to be able to get them cheaper (purely because they can distribute the shipping costs over a much greater number of valves).jkurl wrote:I e-mailed the company that jon linked to and they want $100 for them now. Kudos to Jon btw for his help over quite a number of PM's...

Jon,
Do you have a wiring diagram for your rig. I would like to take a look at yours, so I can plan my rig out. my e-mail is jkurl@sbcglobal.net

Re: Single tier, 3 pump automated build
I have not done a full wiring diagram. The last pic on page one shows the location of the different electrical components. The wiring is pretty basic from the controller. There are 3 Cat-5 jacks for the connection between the controller and the stand. Each jack contains 8 wires (4 pair).jkurl wrote:Jon,

Data Jack #1 = one twisted pair for each of the 4 temp probes.
Data Jack #2 = 6 wires from the BCS outputs plus 1 for ground to the relay board to trigger the valves.
Data Jack #3 = 6 wires fron the BCS outputs plus 1 for ground to the SSR's. The 6 SSR's are wired to contol the 6 outlets which have the 3 pumps and 3 gas solenoid valves plugged into them.

Jon,
Thanks for the info. I see now what you did. I have 24VAC gas valves, so I had to get a CCTV camera control box to power the gas valves.

Re: Single tier, 3 pump automated build
do you still have the valves, i need 6 off them.JonW wrote:If anyone is interested in the SS ball valves I used, I still have about a dozen of them left. I directly imported some of them to get the price down and to supply to a few other brewers.
Here's some links on them:
Mfg US web site: http://www.electric-valve.com/20.html
Video showing them in action: http://www.absolutecentrifuge.com/speci ... spx#spec03 (note that the specs this site lists are for the 120V AC coils, mine are 12V DC coils).
The valves are $75 each. Check Ebay for electric ball valves and you'll find that there isn't anything even close in that price range.
