Can I switch SSR output to different elements?
Can I switch SSR output to different elements?
In the process of designing my electric brew system and I just ordered a BCS-460. I've been reading about some diy brew systems and I commonly see seperate SSRs for the HLT and boiler elements. Is it feasible to use a DTDP relay/contactor to route a single SSR output? If thest $15 40A ssr's on ebay are legit they I suppose it's just as cost effective to stick with SSRs.
Re: Can I switch SSR output to different elements?
Sure, its definitely possible to use a mechanical relay to switch the same SSR to multiple elements, but as you already found out, the SSRs are cheap and plentiful, in many cases cheaper than the relay.
And it makes programming easier if you have separate SSRs. That way you have a dedicated output for each element which makes it a little more intuitive. Without separate SSRs, you'd need an output to control the switch relay, and then another output to control the SSR itself.
