What Solenoid to use for Glycol inlet on Jacketed Fermenter'

Post by BREWMASON »

I have found lots of solenoids but very few that fall into the temp range used when running glycol ( 28F ) for an affordable price. What solenoids do you guys use or recommend? Running three Glycol jacketed fermenters, recirulating with a Perlick 4410 and setting up a BCS-460. This is the only solenoid ( link below ) I can find that meets these requirements.

I like what this guy did:

You say solenoid, but your second picture is a ball valve. I'm using ball valves like what your #2 picture shows and they're working fine. The solenoid ones have a rubber diaphragm in them and may not work well at the lower temperatures. The benefit of the diaphragm ones is that they are instant on/off versus the ball valves that take 4-8 seconds to open/close. I don't consider the time an issue though. Another user here (Samiam) has the same glycol setup as me and we both have no issues with the ball valves.

Thank you Jon. That makes since. The ball valve would work just fine. Appreciate the fast response.
