splicing BCS Temp Probes

Post by BrewKaiser »

I had to add about 4 ft of cable (22 AWG) to two of the temp probes. I twisted the wires in parallel and soldered the union of each splice. Exposed wires were then covered with shrink tubing.

Will there be any detrimental affect to performance of the probes? Guessing I will have to re-calibrate.

No problems - as long as you have a jumper from the BCS ground to an earth ground. Without grounding, temps can bounce and with longer wiring, they tend to bounce more.

Thanks Jon.

I'll have to take a closer look. I purchased the custom panel from ebrewsupply. I'm fairly confident they grounded the BCS to the main earth ground (ie not just enclosure).

The XLR connectors have a jumper from Pin 2 to Pin 3.
