Connecting an OUT to a DIN and a SSR.

Post by bbrally »

I didn't think I would run out of outputs with the BCS-462, but I've done it.

I'm trying to find a way around buying an expansion card for one more output.

I was going to use one of my outputs to signal a DIN to start another process. Is there another way to start another process? That would free up an output.

Or can I connect an output to a DIN AND an SSR (15 milliamp draw). This would in effect give me another output as the process change would only flash the output on for a short time which wouldn't affect the load I'm driving with the SSR. And at the stage that I'm driving the SSR, the state wouldn't be looking at the DIN.

Any thoughts?

Yes, absolutely. The out can drive the SSR and be feed back to a DIN.

We're going to get this feature in software in an upcoming firmware release. Many users have requested the ability to start/stop processes from other processes. I don't have an ETA on that yet, but it shouldn't be too long.

Congrats on filling up the 462. I want to see pictures. The system pictured in the Services page had 16 outputs, which is as big as we've seen so far. I'd love to see a system that uses all of the 66 outputs that a 462+4xDigi16's provide.

I hope to start wiring in the coming weeks, it's still a paper exercise right now.

I'll certainly post up some pics once things get going.

Thanks.

Wow, that control panel pictured is sweet!

I'm currently using 15 outputs and all 8 temp probes. At some point I'm probably going to add On/Off/Auto switches for control & push button switches to start processes and will likely use most of the Din's for that.

8 Temp Probes:
HLT, MLT, Brew Kettle (BK), Heat Exchanger (HEX), Ambient Air, Fermentor Fridge, Conditioning Fridge, Serving Fridge

Outputs:
3 Refrigerators: Fermentor Fridge, Conditioning Fridge, Serving Fridge
3 Gas Solenoid Valves: HLT Burner, MLT Burner, BK Burner
3 March 809 Pumps: HLT Pump, MLT Pump, BK Pump
6 12V SS Ball Valves: HLT-->HLT, HLT-->MLT, MLT-->MLT, MLT-->BK, BK-->BK, BK-->HEX

I hope to have pictures up this weekend.

A Digi-16 just ordered.

For $34 it's not worth trying to work around a 18 out limit.

I'm now up to 7 temps and 23 outs.
