relay solenoid problem

Post by kevmo »

Trying to connect a 12v gas solenoid to the 25a SSR offered by ECC. The solenoid opens when the relay is activated but when the relay is deactivated the solenoid remains open (I have three solenoids and all of them react the same). The solenoid will only close if the power supply is unplugged or the negative solenoid wire is physically disconnected from the negative power supply wire.

Here's a picture of the wiring:

Any ideas?

It's hard to tell from your picture, but it doesn't look like your wiring is correct to me.

BCS GND to relay control (-)
BCS Out (5V) to relay control (+)
12V Power supply (+) to relay input
12V Power supply (-) to solenoid (-)
Relay output to solenoid (+)

Are these SSR's rated for DC voltage (control, not input)?

If your solenoids are only 12V control, you should just use a standard relay.

It's definitely a compatibility issue with the relay. I just ordered another relay board. The solenoids work perfectly with it.

SSR's like what you have are for AC, you can get DC ones, they mostly look like small PCB mount devices... or the relay board is fine and cost-effective

also, have you tried removing the output wires from the input side of the SSR? (only one wire to each SSR terminal, and one lead of the 12v supply jumpered straight to the solenoid..
