Wiring Makes a Difference

Post by oakbarn »

I was calibrating my Temperature Probes using the Calibration Utility http://calculator.from-ca.com/.
I found that there was less than 1.5 F degree off generally so the probes fairly accurate as even a Themapen can be .7 off with certification.

I did one test where I took two calibrated Probes (exact same Type) and just switched the M12 Patch cables. I the 144 Temps are after I switched back. Most of the time the Temps after calibration were with 0.1 of each other and not the 0.2 shown here. But the 15x were about 1.3 degrees off each other. So Changing the wiring does matter!

In general, any changes to wiring will affect the resistance of the loop.

I suspected that. The wiring is very similar. It uses the exact same wire type and # of connections and types (18/2, Solder to M12 Panel Mount Connector, M12 Patch Cable to M12 Probe). The only difference may be in the length of the wire but certainly less than 2 inches Delta. My solder skills  could be the difference as well. The error is small regardless.
