Bcs 462 fermentation control with glycol chiller

Post by Gav »

I would like to run 1 conical and 2 brite tanks of a single pump glycol chiller using my BCS.

Can anyone tell me the simplest way to do this. Like what type of solenoid valves and how the flow of glycol will run if I want the brite tanks at 3 degrees C and the conical at 19C?

Will I run A.C. solenoids off my relay board?

Should I program the glycol pump to only start when the solenoid is open to what ever needs cooling?

Any info would be appreciated. I'll start the build in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks

I personally prefer ball valves over solenoid valves as I feel they last longer (no diaphram) and work better at cold temperatures. I have a dual fermenter setup using them.

Running at the different temps is easy. You just need your glycol bath set lower than what your coldest vessel needs. You build a manifold that is fed from the single pump and each vessel has its own temp probe and commands a valve on the manifold to open or close based on the set temp. You can also use ladder logic to command the pump on when any of the valves open or you can do it within states of the process.

Hi Jon

Thanks for the quick reply. Have you got a link to the ball valves and will they run off the spdt relay board I use for pumps etc?

Thanks

I use the valves from Valves4Projects on Ebay. Good solid valves, reasonable pricing and great customer service.

The valves come in different wiring configurations and which one you buy really depends on how you want to wire them up.
