Help with WNCE2001 wireless setup
Help with WNCE2001 wireless setup
First please forgive me, im not an IT expert so if this seems dumb I dont intend it to be. I bought the Netgear WNCE2001 wireless adapter so that I can wireless access my bcs460 on the network but im having difficulty getting it to work. When i look at the routers client list and the ip is showing at 192.168.1.129 but when I try and access the bcs I get the wireless adapters setup menu. What am I missing in the setup?

likely the adapter is grabbing that address for itself (so that it can be configured when it is being used for something besides a computer, such as a game console or BCS)
Install guide says you have to use it on a computer that is not connected to any network first:
ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/WNCE2 ... LY2010.pdf
Installation without WPS
Step 1: Please disconnect any wireless connection to the router and/or
remove the Ethernet cable currently connected to the computer.
You may restore the connection after the WNCE2001 installation
is complete.
Step 2: Connect the WNCE2001 to your computer, using the Ethernet
cable (included) and one of the power connection options.
For more information on power-up methods, see “Power
Connection Options” on the reverse side.
Step 3: Wait until both the Power and LAN LEDs are solid green.
Make sure the computer gets the IP address. Then, open
your Internet browser and it will automatically take you
to the setup page. Follow the instructions on the setup page,
then return to this guide and continue to Step 4.
Step 4: Disconnect the Ethernet and USB cables from your computer.
Step 5: Connect the WNCE2001 to your TV, Box, or Blu-ray player.
If your device doesn’t have a USB port, see “Power
Connection Options” on the reverse side.

Re: Help with WNEC2001 wireless setup
He can skip these steps. He said he is already connected to the network since he is seeing the wireless adapter setup menu. Give the wireless adapter a static address on your router. Make sure the BCS460 is on the same subnet as the wireless adapter. Give the BCS 460 the same static IP address as the WNCE2001. When you access the static IP address, you will get the BCS460 and not the wireless adapter menu.clearwaterbrewer wrote:likely the adapter is grabbing that address for itself (so that it can be configured when it is being used for something besides a computer, such as a game console or BCS)

Re: Help with WNEC2001 wireless setup
I would not be too sure about using the same address, I have seen other wireless adapters get a different address for themselves versus the attached device when using DHCP... I ran into this when upgrading the Microsoft MN-740 XBOX adapter to the D-Link firmware so i could use WPA...gbrewer wrote:

basically 'getting to' the wireless adapter is not always the same as 'getting through' to the BCS... could be, but don't count on it...
Re: Help with WNCE2001 wireless setup
I run mine as described above using the WNCE2001 and have not had an issue as of yet. Possibly could be the router allowing me to do this.
