BCS 460 Dead?

Post by andrewg »

I recently tried to update my bcs 460 to 4.0 firmware however during after the file was uploaded from the tftp server the bcs has been unresponsive. no lights on the Ethernet port or anything. I checked the logs on the tftp server and the file was successfully transferred in full. I am not sure what to do. Please help

No lights sounds like a power supply issue. Have you tested the output of the supply? Have you tested the output of the BCS with the supply attached?

Failed firmware updates are very rare and wouldn't be dead with no lights on.

Power supply checks out and even tried another power supply both are right around 6 volts. Also seems odd that this happened right with the firmware flash.

How are you connecting? Router, direct, ?? After firmware update, you will default back to DHCP. Are you using the 4.x locator to see if it is on the network? (3.x locator does not work).

Did you actually go to 4.0.0 or did you use the latest 4.1.1?

Only time I've heard of a device getting corrupt during flash was if the wrong file was sent or it got disrupted during the flash and left it bricked.

If it is truly bricked, it can be sent to Brewers Hardware and they can flash it via direct board connection.

It is connected via a tp link wireless router which is set to dhcp range. I tried direct connection with new bcs finder no avail. And the static default is 169.x.x.x does not show on the network either. Also did use the 4.1.1 bcs460 file

Plug the BCS directly into your router for troubleshooting. No direct connect and no tp link. Search this site for people having issues with TP links. Never used one myself, but they've seemed to be problematic at times.

Try a 15 Second Reset. It does not need anything but power to do that.

I gave the 15 second reset a try a few times still nothing. I talked to derrin at brew hardware turns out the bcs 460 cannot accept firmware 4.1.1 which is probably where this thing went haywire. needs a reflash direct on the board from the sound of it. bad news is I cant brew till I get a working bcs
