BCS offline every weekend

Post by oldskoolbrewing »

Hey all

Well after getting temp probes straightened out I am having a new weird one. Every Saturday night it seems my BCS goes offline and I cannot reach it at all with out unplugging and plugging back in. This causes issues obviously with timed processes. The BCS has a dedicated IP on the router which works great all week. Any ideas??

This is a weird one. The BCS has no concept of the day of the week and timers can just keep running and will rollover at 999 hours. Usually a BCS will run for months without any issues.

Is it always around the same time that it becomes unresponsive? I'm wondering if something environmental is maybe kicking on and causing an issue. Do you have temp probe wiring or ethernet wiring running near any high voltage equipment?

Yeah I was thinking it was something on router or something but that all looks good. It seems to be Saturday nights. The BCS is self contained and not near anything high voltage. Ethernet cable isn't near anything at all really. Sunday mornings we simply cant connect to BCS. I open the box its in and lights blink showing communication. Power cycle it and it starts right up. Done this 3 weeks in a row and frustrating the heck out of me.

Do you have a static IP on the BCS or a reservation in the router? Many reservations are only valid for 7 days and a new DHCP request must be performed to keep the address active. Possibly the router is stopping communications because it hasn't seen a DHCP renew for the IP address.

I am suspecting something like this. I have a TP Link Archer router. I have a DHCP reservation made between BCS and the IP I am using. Thinking I need an ARP mac binding setup also with same IP?

ARP mac binding isn't something that I've ever seen anyone need for BCS usage. Still, it could be something with the router and DHCP lease times.

I tried setting the network setting in bcs to the IP I have held for it. Now it shows in BCS finder but I can not connect!

Did you set the IP, mask and gateway addresses? Odd that finder would see it but your browser won't connect.
