I am using the finder from here
http://docs.embeddedcc.com/finder/
I have tried using every IP shown in the Modem and it has never worked, but maybe that is because I am going through a bridge? I am taking it into the house now and hooking it straight into the modem.
The Modem has 3 cables hooked to it and the router showed 3 wired IP addresses I tried all 3 and none would connect to anything.
BCS 4.0 Public Beta 3
Re: BCS 4.0 Public Beta 3
I just unplugged it from the modem and plugged it back in, then forced the modem to rescan the network and it worked this time.
So
What do I need to do to "set a DHCP reservation in your router"
When I take it back to the garage, and hook it back up to the Bridge, what do I need to do to make the finder utility find it?
Forgot to mention the firmware is BCS-460 3.7.1

What model router do you have?
I do a web search for <router model> dhcp reservation and usually one of the first results will tell you how to do it. If you can't find it, give us your router make/model and I'll look it up.
Once you have a reservation you shouldn't need to use the finder utility since you'll know the address, just bookmark it. The bridge in the garage is just a basic wireless bridge? Maybe post the model of that too so I can look it up.

You're using the 4.0 version finder with a 3.x version of the firmware.Kent wrote:Forgot to mention the firmware is BCS-460 3.7.1
You need the 3.x finder: http://wiki.embeddedcc.com/index.php/BCSfinder_Utility
Re: BCS 4.0 Public Beta 3
The modem is a Westell A90 750045-07
Is this what I need to do?

The bridge is a US Robotics usr5432
I just managed to install the 4.0 firmware without bricking it this time

Re: BCS 4.0 Public Beta 3
It does not look like that router supports setting up a DHCP reservation. The only manual I could find online for that router was from 2009, I'm not sure if there's a newer version or firmware update available since then that would enable it. That's the first time that I recall looking for this feature and not being able to find it in a router/modem.
The link you provided is not what you're looking for. The bridge seems like a straight forward bridge and shouldn't cause any issues from what I can tell at a glance.

Jon, First of all thanks for sticking with me through all this.
So I brought it back to the garage, deleted finder, and downloaded it again (the 4.0 version) just to be sure
Still no joy on finding the BCS. I guess I would suspect the bridge, but it was working fine before I bricked the BCS.
I tried using the same IP as in the house, and it doesn't work.

Kent, my previous message said that you CAN'T use the 4.0 finder. You stated that you are on the 3.7.1 firmware which means you need the earlier finder that is compatible with that version. I posted the link to the wiki and the download page for that version.Kent wrote:Jon, First of all thanks for sticking with me through all this.

Yeah, I missed that! At this point, I would suspect the bridge also. The finder uses a UDP broadcast packet that the bridge may not be passing. Many bridges and routers do not forward broadcast traffic.Kent wrote:Jon,
