Been using a BCS462 for over a year and recently upgraded to 4.0.1. My current config starts with a countdown timer set the night before starting a brewday process to heat my kettle strike water and HLT/HERMS to proper temps early the next morning. My small brewery is in a building next door and want the BCS to send me an email when strike/HERMS temps are reached and ready for mash in. I am also converting my fermentation room to be controlled by the BCS and need it to email me an alert if temps get our of range. I have never got the BCS to email any address even though a valid email is in the settings and my LAN/WAN allows smtp/emails out from all other devices.
Does anyone send email from a BCS462 and do you have any tips or tricks for me to get mine working?

Re: help getting email alarm to work?
Sending e-mails has been hit or miss as the ISP that provides that function for ECC/BCS has blocked the service several times. The next BCS firmware version is already in beta testing that addresses this with a new provider.

Thanks, I am pretty familiar with the 4.0 firmware now and would be glad to beta if it will help.

What about the ability to specify SMTP settings?

Re: help getting email alarm to work?
The next version of the firmware should have this fixed. We have a current test version that is using a 3rd party service for sending messages. Ideally, we'd like to just have SMTP settings, but doing so adds too much code to the networking stack.Moad wrote:What about the ability to specify SMTP settings?

I thought that might be the case!
Not a feature I will use a great deal but I can certainly see the usefulness of it.

One trick to consider is not using a relay. You can send the email to the MX host of the addressee domain. Perhaps that is too much code, but it avoids replay issues.
